With its renewal project already underway, the Beishi area of Tangzha ancient town is scheduled to open to the public during the 2021 National Day holiday and become a tourist and cultural site that showcases ordinary residents' lives in Tangzha, according to local media.

The whole renewal project covers about 27,000 square meters, 1,964 sq m of which feature traditional buildings with high historical value. In addition, there are traditional, general and factory buildings with moderate historical value that are in relatively good condition.

Due to the coexistence of buildings from different eras and the interspersing of residential and commercial buildings, the streets are relatively mixed.

Thus, the key for the project is to renovate the facades of the buildings along the street and unify the formal characteristics.

"In the later stages of the project, illegal constructions that are in use will be demolished and buildings that conform to the block style will be preserved," said a representative of Tangzha Ancient Town Protection and Development Co Ltd.

"A 300-meter pedestrian street will be built in the block to show the style and features of life in the Tangzha area," he said.
