The scorching summer has finally come to an end, and it's time to enjoy in autumn's crisp, cool air.
Now would be a good time to visit Futian Temple in Chongchuan district, Nantong to enjoy the tranquil scenery.
The first Futian Temple, one of the nine largest temples in ancient Nantong, was built during the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and restored during the reign of Emperor Longqing (1567-1572) in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
The temple's golden years were during the Ming and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, with a number of literati writing inscriptions and biographies for it.
In 1913, Zhang Jian, a renowned industrialist and scholar, donated the gifts he received for his 60-year-old birthday to the temple. He also wrote the inscription of the temple's name during its restoration in 1922.
As time went by, the temple declined due to social turbulence. The temple was relocated to Chongchuan district in 2002 and has been committed to promoting local culture and public welfare.
Futian Temple has been recognized by the provincial religious affairs department as a five-star venue for religious activities in 2015.
