Nantong Textile Museum in Chongchuan district, Nantong will close for upgrades starting Aug 4, according to a notice on the museum's official website.

Five major exhibition halls and the modern textile factory area will be closed for about two months as part of the upgrading project, though the areas reproducing farmhouses and shops in old times will remain opened. Educational activities will also continue as per normal.

A large-scale display of national folk costumes is expected to be unveiled to the public in October and will run until February 2021.

The museum, which opened in October 1985, is the first professional textile museum in China. It features several collections with local characteristics, including ceramic spinning wheels and weaving machines used at Dasheng Yarn Factory, the first large-scale cotton spinning business in modern China.
