Yangkou town in Rudong county, Nantong achieved 15.2 billion yuan ($2.15 billion) in industrial taxable sales value from January to May, up 13.8 percent year on year, under the collaboration between the local government and enterprises.

In recent years, the town has been promoting its industrial transformation and upgrading and has reached several milestones in medicine, new materials and new energy industries.

Data showed that the medicine industry in the town saw a significant increase during the first five months of this year. 

For example, HISUN Pharmaceuticals Nantong Co, a high-end company focusing on active pharmaceutical ingredients for anti-infection, antilipemic and anti-tuberculosis drugs, has accelerated the production of Favipiravir tablets, which is developed by the company and considered effective in treating COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms.

From January to May, the company doubled its sales value, compared with the same period last year, according to Xu Weiwei, general manager of the company.

Wind power is also a key industry in Yangkou town. Shanghai Electric Wind Power Equipment (Rudong) Co was experiencing excess inventory due to the delay of construction on a wind plant. With the help of the local government, the downstream enterprises have been urged to accelerate construction and the problem was solved.

Since the beginning of this year, several delegations have been dispatched to attract investment from Shenzhen and Beijing. In addition, the town is also integrating upstream and downstream enterprises to form improved regional industrial chains and supply chains.
