Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province will build 100 new parks in its urban areas by 2025, according to a plan recently published by the city's municipal administration and landscaping department.

The document states that 240 parks with a combined green area of 374.68 hectares have been planned in the urban area. They include 88 in Chongchuan district, 73 in Gangzha district, 41 in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area and 38 in Tongzhou district.

To date, 140 parks have already been built, covering a green area of 233.22 hectares.

Officials said the new parks will be designed in accordance with people's needs and local geological characteristics. Each will feature parking lots, toilets and amenities for sightseeing, leisure and sports.

The park that will be built in Tongzhou district in July, for example, will be themed around crape myrtles and be equipped with more than 30 parking spaces. The venue will also have sports and entertainment facilities for children.

The local government is aiming to build a park measuring 2,000 square meters or above within 300 to 500 meters of every residential area in the city.
