A palm leaf weaving activity was held at Haobei community in Nantong, Jiangsu province, on May 26, with more than 40 local residents taking part.

Ma Yihua, a master of palm leaf weaving in Nantong, was invited to teach participants how to weave the leaves into various shapes.

Palm leaf weaving is a traditional Chinese art form. The products are generally divided into seven categories – shoes, hats, handbags, trays, toys, fans, and chairs.

Ma learned the art form from her father at a young age and specializes in making animals. Her dragon products are among her most popular and won a silver award at Nantong's first folk handicrafts art competition in 2015.
