Several moorhens were recently introduced to the Memorial Park of Cao Ding in Chongchuan district in Nantong – the city in China's eastern coastal province of Jiangsu – attracting lots of residents to take photos there, according to park officials.

The park, covering about 10 hectares, was constructed in 2017. It consists of a lake, a green corridor, pavilions and other support recreational facilities.

Moorhens are medium-sized water birds. They prefer to live among bushes and reeds and eat water plants, small fish, shrimps and aquatic insects for food. They usually stay in pairs and can be seen in many places around the world, except in the Oceania region in the Pacific Ocean.

The reeds and the lotus ponds in the park are now paradise for these moorhens. They often forage for food in the pond and can sometimes be seen walking on the lotus leaves.

The moorhens are currently enjoying their life in the park, thanks to the favorable natural environment and people's awareness of the need to protect them.
