Chongchuan hosts online chess competition
An online chess competition hosted by Chongchuan district's chess association and Zhang Zurong, a retired teacher at Nantong Qixiu Middle School, ended on May 12.
A total of 28 chess amateurs from Chongchuan, Gangzha and Tongzhou districts participated in the competition and were divided into two groups based on skill level.
The competition started on May 6 and lasted for seven days, during which time participants competed through a game platform on their mobile phones.
Zhang paid for all expenses associated with the competition. He has hosted a number of table tennis and chess competitions since 2011, spending over 80,000 yuan ($11,274) in total.
The competitions are intended to enrich the life of local seniors and offer them more opportunities to interact with others.
