Guided by two pharmacists from Nantong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, residents of the city learned about Chinese herbs at Nantong Museum in Chongchuan district, Nantong, on May 3.

An education project in health preservation through traditional Chinese medicine was launched in the district in 2018. Pharmacists Yan Wei and Gu Yan have served as volunteers since the project started, teaching locals about Chinese medical culture.

During the novel coronavirus outbreak, they also gave online classes involving the Chinese medical classic, Huangdi Neijing, and basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine through WeChat groups.

As the first public museum in China, Nantong Museum boasts a variety of flowers and herbs that can be used as medicine, and has a garden cultivating over 50 kinds of medicinal plants.

During the two-hour activity, participants learned about more than 70 kinds of common Chinese herbs. Yan also gave participants some sachets filled with herbs as small gifts.

According to the organizer, more such activities are expected to be held to promote traditional Chinese medicine in the future.
