Village secretary in Qidong promotes local rice through live stream
Zhao Yuefan, a village secretary of Nanyang town in Qidong, Nantong, gave a live stream on Tik Tok, a short-video platform, on April 29 to promote local rice.
About 100 metric tons of rice was harvested at the end of last October, and there is nearly 20 tons remaining in the warehouses due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. The live stream is expected to be of great help, said Zhao.
"The rice looks like crystal and is glutinous with a hint of sweetness. It won't become chewy even in the cold," Zhao said when he tasted the rice during the live stream.
Zhao answered questions from viewers and invited an expert in agricultural technology to give his opinion on the local rice.
The number of viewers held steady at around 2,100 throughout the live stream, which lasted one hour and 15 minutes, and a total of 1,860 kilograms of rice were sold.
Zhao is confident that there will be more orders in the near future. The online rewards received in the live stream will be donated to help local seniors who live alone.
