A seminar on marine equipment engineering and technology was held in Chongchuan district, Nantong on April 27. Several project deals were signed during the event.

Shipbuilding and marine engineering is a leading industry in Nantong. To date, there are over 200 enterprises worth over 100 million yuan ($14.13 million) each engaged in the industry around the city. Several industrial clusters for shipbuilding, marine equipment and relevant supporting industries have been formed.

Chongchuan district has been boosting development of marine engineering and technology in the district and accelerating the construction of innovative industrial clusters in recent years.

In 2019, the district's output value in shipbuilding and marine engineering was nearly 7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.5 percent, and that number is expected to reach 50 billion yuan in 2025.

Since NACKS, a joint venture established by China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, started operation in the 1990s in Chongchuan, a number of well-known domestic and foreign enterprises have set up branches in the district. Over 10 national and world-class vessels have been produced by local enterprises.

The district has also been developing a digital shipbuilding system in recent years. The intelligent workshop at NACKS is the first national-level intelligent manufacturing workshop in the industry.

Wang Jing, director of the district's bureau of investment promotion, said that the seminar aims to facilitate the district's further development in shipbuilding and marine equipment engineering, and introduce more technology and talent to support industrial upgrading.
