Rudong native volunteers in fight against virus
Yu Xinhui, a 24-year-old native of Rudong county, Nantong, volunteered to help fight the novel coronavirus in Hubei province and returned home on April 25 after completing her quarantine period.
Yu is a nurse at a private hospital in the city who decided to sign up as a volunteer at a rehabilitation station in Wuchang district, Wuhan.
However, Yu couldn't travel to Wuhan directly due to travel restrictions, so she had to travel over 800 kilometers over a period of 20 hours before finally arriving in the city on Feb 20.
The rehabilitation station she was assigned to had been set up specifically for novel coronavirus pneumonia patients who had been discharged from hospital. They had to be quarantined for 14 days to ensure they did not still have the virus.

Yu made a point to provide emotional support to patients feeling anxious, and in order to help alleviate their worries, she encouraged them to engage in physical exercise. When patients finished their quarantine period, Yu offered them certificates of merit that she made herself. Yu also received some small gifts from patients who appreciated her hard work.
"We were touched that Yu was willing to travel such a long distance by herself to support us. Her optimism and kindness has impressed us and raised the spirits of many patients," said Huang Hua, who was in charge of the station.
Yu was away from home for 66 days, and her parents prepared many delicious dishes for her upon her return.
"We were so worried about her that we couldn't sleep for days. But ever since she made the decision, we have stood behind her and been proud of her," said Yu's parents. "We called her every day to make sure she was okay and feel so relieved now that she's home."
