"Now is the best time to enjoy peach, cherry and Chinese crabapple blossoms in the Nantong Museum," said a citizen surnamed Zhao.

In addition to parks and museums, plenty of cherry flowers can be seen elsewhere in downtown Nantong, such as Middle Renmin Road, Chongchuan Road, Xingyu Road, and the bank of Tonglyv Canal.

Along the bank of the Haohe River, the city's moat, a number of new flower species have been introduced, forming some truly exotic scenes, according to a local official in charge of the landscaping project. "Some drought-resistant plants were also grown in the area, making it feel like you're walking through an oasis."

A variety of flower exhibitions have also been held across the city. A tulip exhibition is currently underway at the Seyuan Garden, with more than 100 varieties in eight colors on display, including red, yellow, pink, white, black and several shades in between.

According to Zhang Lu, head of the garden's operating department, a number of tulips will be on sale during the Qingming Festival holiday to meet demand from tourists. Along with the tulips are some bonsais, including succulent plants, hyacinth, asparagus fern and pachira macrocarpa.
