Several traditional Chinese operas were performed on Jan 12 in Qidong, creating a festive atmosphere in the county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province.

The professional performers from Qidong's Yue opera troupe and cultural center gave high-level performances to residents and gained great applause.

"We received high praise from the locals," said Chen Jiafang, the team leader of Qidong's Yue opera troupe. "In spite of the cold weather, performers were in high spirits because residents love to watch traditional operas."

Several local residents said it was great to be able to enjoy the wonderful performances near their homes and expressed hope for more activities like this.

In recent years, as people live a richer life, they have stronger demands for culture. Qidong is striving to organize a series of arts and cultural activities and training sessions to promote traditional culture among locals and enrich their spiritual lives.
