Calligraphers of the Nantong Committee of the China Democratic League wrote couplets and Chinese character "Fu", which means happiness and good luck, for local residents during an activity to welcome the Spring Festival held in Chongchuan district, Nantong, Jiangsu province on Jan 11.

The Nantong Democratic League has hosted such activities for over 10 years, expressing good wishes for the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, and they have become a local favorite.

More than 10 famous calligraphers were invited. They wrote the "Fu" characters in a variety of fonts and couplets that demonstrate warm blessings.

A resident surnamed Peng was happy to get the satisfying couplets and said it was exciting to have so many famous calligraphers writing couplets for locals.

Liu Hong, chairman of Nantong Committee of the China Democratic League, said that hopefully the activity will help promote traditional Chinese culture, create a more festive atmosphere and strengthen the close ties between artists and residents.
