Chahe town in Rudong carries on farmland reclamation
Chahe town in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province is promoting high-standard farmland reclamation. The demonstration farmland, which covers 7,100 mu (473 hectares) in the town, has been recently under construction.
To date, the town has invested over 41 million yuan ($5.90 million) in high-standard farmland reclamation in six villages of the town, covering a total of 16,500 mu. The farmland reclamation will help improve rural production and strengthen local agricultural development.
According to Wang Hao, secretary of Sanlian village in the town, the village plans to mainly focus on land leveling, as well as the requisition-compensation balance of cultivated land and relevant infrastructure construction with the total investment of about 10 million yuan.
In addition, a well-equipped and ecological modern drainage system will be formed, with the farmland utilization rate increasing after constructing supporting trenches in the village.
"In the past, the farmland was full of potholes and no grower was willing to plant crops here. But now the land is expected to be reclaimed and expanded," said a villager of Sanlian village, who is looking forward to the farmland reclamation.
