An offshore wind power plant recently started construction in the Lyusi Port Economic Development Zone in Qidong, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province. It is the first of its kind in Qidong.

The plant is a major provincial project receiving about 14.7 billion yuan ($2.11 billion) in total investment.

It will consist of three parts located off the coast of Qidong, which will have installed capacities of 250 megawatts, 250 MW, and 300 MW, respectively. The three parts will be equipped with independent offshore booster stations.

The plant is expected to be merged into the local grid system in 2021 and operate for 25 years after that. It will generate about 2.2 billion kilowatt-hour of energy every year, contribute about 150 million yuan in taxes, and create thousands of job opportunities.

The plant represents a wind power breakthrough in Qidong and is expected to promote energy efficiency and emission reduction in the county-level city.
