Chongchuan invests a lot to improve people's livelihoods
Financial investments in people's livelihood improvements made this year by Chonghuan district, Nantong, are estimated at around 2.7 billion yuan ($386.13 million). They involved water environment management, green construction, senior care, and other areas, and were up 7.5 percent year-on-year.
The local district government believes that improving people's livelihoods plays a significant role in social and economic development.
Liu Hao, secretary of the Chongchuan district's Party committee, said that the district is dedicated to solving livelihood issues at a high quality level to meet people's need of living better lives.
To date, a total of 455 enterprises in the district that were seriously polluting the environment have been demolished and ecological restoration has been carried in about a 350,000 square meter area.
Over the past two years, the district has added around six square kilometers of forests, taking its forest coverage rate to more than 80 percent. The greenbelts in the district have expanded to about 860,000 sq m.
Chongchuan district also greatly promotes the construction of nursing institutions for seniors and the establishment a of senior care system, as about 132,000 people older than 60 now live in the district.
Service stations of home-based care for seniors are set up in all communities of the district, and a system of home-based care for seniors is expected to be established in the district in the near future.
