A traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy exhibition opened at a vocational middle school in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province on Dec 26, according to the organizers.

On show are more than 300 works by Nantong native artists living during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties and during the Republic of China (1912-1949).

The works are all from the collection of Tao Yonghua, a sculpture teacher at the school.

Over the past three decades, he has spent most of his income collecting painting and calligraphy works by native artists.

"I plan to establish a museum, allowing more people to learn about these artworks," Tao said.
