A modern drama on the Nantong dialect was staged at the Gengsu Theater in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, on Dec 5.

The drama was created and performed in the Nantong dialect by the Nantong Tong Opera Troupe and the Nantong Tongzhou Song and Dance Troupe.

The drama, which consisted of five sections and ran about 110 minutes, told the story of the wives of Nantong construction workers who devoted themselves fully to their husbands and families, overcoming many difficulties to live a happy life.

The construction industry is one of the main driving forces behind Nantong’s economic growth. The city, especially Tongzhou district, is home to a number of companies that construct buildings, docks, roads, and other forms of infrastructure in Japan, Russia, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
