A 5G lung cancer screening vehicle made its debut in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, during a public welfare event for lung cancer screening and care on Dec 3.

The vehicle, which was previously displayed at the 2019 World Internet of Things Expo, was equipped with a number of advanced technologies, including a CT scanner, artificial intelligence images, and a 5G network.

The vehicle is able to offer primary diagnoses through CT scans and send the images to authorities through a 5G network for more detailed advice. 

A total of 100 citizens signed up for an examination during the event. The Nantong Tumor Hospital also sent a group of experts from its imaging, thoracic surgery, and oncology departments to offer free consultations to locals.

Organizers said the vehicle would provide free services in Nantong's downtown area, Tongzhou district, and Haimen, a county-level city governed by Nantong, over the next three days. Its goal is to raise awareness of the importance of early screening for lung cancer.

According to the latest report released by the National Cancer Center, lung cancer is the most common form of cancer in China in terms of both number of incidences and number of deaths.

In 2018, the incidence rate of lung cancer in Nantong stood at 77.7 per 100,000 people and the death rate stood at 65.3 per 100,000.
