"Cut the coconut here to open it more easily," said a broadcaster from Suho Whole Foods during a live stream showing viewers how to open a coconut.

As live streaming gains steam, more agricultural companies in Haimen are turning to the camera to promote themselves.

"We started posting videos on streaming platforms such as Douyin and Huoshan Video last year," said Cai Bo, an employee at Suho Whole Foods, one of the city's leading agricultural companies.

"Video topics include how to select apples, visits to orchards, and introductions of seasonal products," Cai added.

The company made the top three on Tmall.com and ranked first on JD.com in fruit and vegetable sales during last year's Singles Day shopping gala.

On Singles' Day, which falls on Nov 11 this year, the company earned 3 million yuan ($426,600) through JD sales and more than 1 million yuan through Tmall sales, 40 percent higher than the same period last year. Live streaming is thought to have played a role in this increase.

According to the local agricultural department, the new ecommerce model has led to the emergence of a number of popular agricultural brands in the city, which have injected momentum and vitality into the local agricultural industry.

In the first quarter of this year, 330 million yuan in agricultural goods were sold via e-commerce platforms in Haimen, representing an increase of 30 percent year on year.

Officials said the local government has provided training, preferential policies, and subsidies to encourage local farmers and businesses to sell through online platforms.
