The marine engineering equipment industry is developing rapidly in Qidong, Nantong, Jiangsu province.

The value of taxable sales in the district's industrial park for marine engineering totaled 12.4 billion yuan ($1.77 billion) from January to September, a year-on-year increase of 16.56 percent. The total value of its industrial output this year is expected to reach 26 billion yuan.

Over the past few years, the industrial park has been attracting influential enterprises and advanced technology from China and abroad in order to better develop its high-end marine engineering equipment manufacturing industry from a traditional shipbuilding industry.

Last month, the Qidong Branch of COSCO (China Ocean Shipping Company) Shipping Group achieved a new record, delivering two barges and undocking three within three days. The company has taken on a leading role in China's marine engineering equipment manufacturing industry.

Meanwhile, Qidong Marine Engineering Co, a branch of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co, is focusing on special marine engineering and offshore platforms. The company delivered a 4,500-ton crane barge earlier this year.
