Chongchuan residents celebrate World Food Day
Residents participated in a food-saving activity in Zijinghua community, Chongchuan district, Nantong, Jiangsu province, to commemorate World Food Day on Oct 16.
Yang Yang, a volunteer, taught participants about food cultivation to raise awareness of the importance of farmers.
During the activity, participants made a collage out of grain to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Saving food is important, and just a little effort from one individual can make the difference, said Yao Jie, secretary of the Party committee of Zijinghua community.
World Food Day was established at the 20th conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1979. The first World Food Day fell on Oct 16, 1981, and since then all participating countries have hosted annual activities related to food and agriculture on Oct 16.
