Qidong is set to splice the main brace and launch an international sailing regatta in its Yuantuojiao scenic area on Sept 20.

The event, which runs to Sept 22, will bring together 30 crews from China and foreign countries to compete.

By introducing the regatta, the local government expects to develop Yuantuojiao scenic area into a popular tourist destination known for its various recreational sports. 

The Yuantuojiao resort is located in the easternmost part of Jiangsu province, giving it the earliest sunrise in the region. 

At Yuantuojiao, the vast Yangtze River flows into the sea, where the East China Sea and Huanghai Sea separate. Enthusiasts say the three waters meet here in a magnificent way. 

Many men and women of literature and letters have over the years written of the glories of taking in the unique 5 am sunrise at the scenic spot.
