Stricter controls for inspecting wood packing used for export goods have been implemented since the start of September, according to information released by the Nantong branch of the China Chamber of International Commerce.

Officials said that companies that use wood packing on export goods must now have pest eradication treatment certifications, or International Plant Protection Convention labels, when going through customs inspection. Those without the documentation will not be allowed to pass through.

Wood packing is defined as being wooden materials used to load, pack, bed, support or fasten goods -- including crates, pallets, frames, vats, spools, chocks and crossties.

According to the International Plant Protection Convention, all wood packing materials should go through special treatment to eradicate pests before being exported. The move is to protect the ecology and environment of destination countries.
