A comprehensive garbage disposal system has been established in Chongchuan district in Nantong, in eastern Jiangsu province, according to local officials.

A total of 200 hazardous refuse bins have been put into use in nearly 200 residential areas since the end of last year, which have collected about 43 tons of hazardous garbage.

Local volunteers, communities and government departments have made joint efforts to promote garbage sorting.

In the residential area of Deminhuayuan, an environmental protection association formed by more than 50 elderly people has been collecting hazardous garbage at its entrances and exits  on the 10th day of each month since the start of this year.

A new recyclable garbage sorting center is also expected to start operating in the district early in September.
