Nantong police has won big time on their first effort at the World Police and Fire Games, held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, on Aug 8-18.

A total of 12 police officers from the coastal city in Jiangsu province -- 10 in service and two retired -- took part in 14 competitions during the event and pocketed three golds, 12 silvers and three bronze medals.

The WPFG is a biennial athletic event, open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel from across the world. It was the first time in the event's 34-year history that it has taken place in Asia.

A total of 7,718 athletes from 80 countries and regions took part in 56 events -- including boxing, darts, indoor rowing and special programs for police and firefighters, such as stair climbing and police motorcycle events.

The Jiangsu delegation won 103 medals out of the 3,784 on offer at the games, including 39 golds, 34 silvers and 30 bronze.
