COSCO unveils floating production storage, offloading vessel
The first oil industry floating production storage and offloading vessel – or FPSO -- for China Ocean Shipping Group (COSCO), Qidong, was named the FPSO HELANG during a ceremony held in Qidong in Nantong, in East China's Jiangsu province on July 25.
Executives from Yinson Holdings Berhad, Petronas and JX NIPPON, along with Zhao Zengshan, deputy general manager of COSCO and some 500 members from COSCO were in attendance.
FPSO HELANG, the newly retrofitted FPSO, is 248.8 meters long and 42.6 m wide. It is co-built by COSCO (Qidong), the Chinese state-owned shipping company and Yinson Group, a FPSO services provider.
Its retrofit took over seven months, involving prefabrication and installation of nearly 5,000 pipes, the installation of 20,000 m of special tubing and the laying and connection of 280 kilometers of cable.
According to COSCO, the FPSO will serve in the oil fields off Malaysia's coast. It is expected to bring major financial benefits to Yinson Group.
Zhao Zengshan said that COSCO will promote green and innovative development, enhance cooperation with more companies, and contribute more to the development of the clean energy.
