A Nantong gymnastics delegation made up of kids under eight took part in the Jiangsu provincial gymnastics festival held in Wuxi on June 30, winning one first-place prize, one second-place prize, and three third-place prizes.

The festival has been held annually since 2015 and consists of five major competitive events, including children’s gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, and college gymnastics. It also features nearly 100 small games.

A total of 1,209 athletes from 11 cities and districts in Jiangsu took part in the event, which also attracted several gymnastics clubs from Shanghai, Changsha (a city in Hunan province), and Thailand.

The gymnastics development in Nantong has a solid foundation, with three world gymnastics champions -Huang Xu, Lu Bin, and Sun Wei- born in the city, said Lu Jianjun, secretary general of the Nantong gymnastics association.

According to Lu, children’s gymnastics is booming in Nantong and the association plans to make more efforts to promote the sport among teenagers.
