The total value of imports and exports in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province, hit 15.64 billion yuan ($2.27 billion yuan) from January to May this year, an increase of 8.9 percent year-on-year.

During the period, the export trade was worth 5.82 billion yuan, up 14.2 percent. In addition, value of imports increased 6 percent, reaching 9.82 billion yuan.

The European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the United States and Japan were the major trade partners with Rudong county during the Jan-May period.

Trade between these parties and Rudong made up 37.4 percent of the total trade volume.

Officials said that State-owned enterprises, private companies and foreign-funded enterprises in the county play vital roles in the trade.
