Ding Yang, a magician from Nantong, East China’s Jiangsu province, won Canada’s Allan Slaight Award for International Rising Star on June 26. She is the first Chinese magician to receive the award.

Famous for her pigeon forge magic show, Ding is hailed as the “queen of pigeons” in Nantong. Her performance also earned her the Golden Chrysanthemum Award, the top award for magic shows China, in 2015.

Ding used to be an acrobat, but had to change careers due to an accident in 2006. She then devoted herself to learning magic and became the first person to win the title of “international magician” in Jiangsu in 2012.

She is always striving to improve her craft and took a training course at the Greg Frewin Theater in Canada from March to July 2018.

A new and improved version of her pigeon show was held at a magic gala in Las Vegas, United States, in 2018, earning thunderous applause.
