A town located in Yuantuojiao scenic area in Qidong, a county-level city in Nantong, East China’s Jiangsu province, was recognized with the title “special sports and health town” on a list released by the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau at the 2019 Jiangsu Conference on the Sports Industry on March 29.
Yundong town was the winner of the title, which was designed to award special areas characterized by an integration of sports, health, tourism, leisure, culture, and life.
Winners of the title will receive financial support for development from the Provincial Sports Bureau.
The Jiangsu Sports Bureau launched the initiative in early September 2016 and 14 towns have won the title.
This is the third competition for the award. Yundong town was the only area in Nantong to receive the honor.
The provincial sports authority has awarded 20 million yuan ($2.98 million) to areas that passed the midterm inspections.
Yuantuojiao is located in the easternmost part of Jiangsu province, and thus has the earliest sunrise in the province.
A number of sporting events, including the National Sandbeach Volleyball Competition and China Fencing League, were held in the scenic area.
