Container throughput exceeded 1.25 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU) at the Nantong Port in East China's Jiangsu province in 2018, local authorities announced on Jan 4.

The port received 481,400 TEUs last year, representing a year-on-year growth of 23.7 percent. A total of 772,600 TEUs were discharged from the port, rising 25 percent.

Foreign trade accounted for 28.83 percent of the total throughput, while internal trade took up 71.17 percent.

Nantong Port has been working hard to become a strategic transportation hub of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.

It currently houses 289 docks, including 29 10, 000-ton berths. A group of industrial clusters have been established in the area, ranging from logistics and new energy to equipment manufacturing.

The port has opened more than 300 routes to over 100 countries and regions around the world.
