A total of 250 home-based nursing-service stations and 10 daytime nursing centers opened in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, during 2018.

Caring for senior citizens is a top priority for the local government, and it has developed an integrated care system incorporating both community-based care and senior care homes.

The city's new senior care centers cover both rural and urban areas, providing elderly people with daytime care and entertainment activities.

"I regard it as my second home, where I can read a newspaper and chat with my neighbors," said Zhang Aizhen, an 81-year-old former teacher, at a renovated nursing center in Chongchuan district.

The 500-square-meter center boasts a variety of services, including catering, rehabilitation, medical treatment, psychological support, and recreation activities.

Chongchuan has built six daytime nursing centers and 65 home-based nursing stations, according to Qian Xia, an official from the district's civil affairs department.

Our comprehensive care system now meets local demand, she said.
