Updated: 2018-12-19

Kato Chizumaro, an honorary citizen of Nantong and the chairman of the bank of Nagoya, came to the No.1 Primary School of Nantong, Jiangsu province, and donated 100,000 yuan ($14,500) to the school as an award fund on Dec 17.

Kato has promoted the exchanges and cooperation between Japan and Nantong in various fields, including the economy and culture, since his first visit to the school in 1986.

Thanks to his efforts, about 60 Nantong students have studied at Nanzan University since the program of Nantong students studying abroad was launched in 1998.

“I have great respect for Zhang Jian. He has not only developed industry, but also devoted himself to the development of education. And he founded such an excellent school as the No.1 Primary School,” said Kato.

The school will keep pace with the times and cultivate international talents, according to Lu Shengli, principal of No.1 Primary School.

The award fund will be used to reward the teachers and students with both ability and moral integrity.
