Artistic master Han Meilin visited Nantong Blue Calico Museum, Jiangsu province on Sept 3 and created hundreds of new patterns on the spot.
Han’s visit to Nantong was made with the cooperation of the Yuanxinlan dyehouse. He created 138 paintings during this visit. At Nantong Blue Calico Museum, Han experienced the craftsmanship of Nantong’s blue calico printing and dyeing and encouraged the young inheritors Wu Lingshu and Ni Shenjian to persist in traditional skills, constantly innovate in design and meet the needs of people’s lives.
“The intangible cultural heritages should be used in people’s daily lives. Innovative designs based on traditional techniques can revitalize intangible cultural heritages. Han’s design derives from traditions and features modern feeling, which will input new vitality to Yuanxinlan dyehouse,” said Wu Yuanxin, the curator of the museum.
Han’s design works for this visit will be selected and added to the production of blueprint cloth.
