Nantong Third People's Hospital was founded in 1962 as the Nantong Infectious Diseases Hospital. It has evolved into a comprehensive hospital with remarkable specialties, integrating medicine, education and research. It is a first-class Grade three hospital approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning, and serves as the Third Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, the Nantong Clinical Medical School of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a pilot modern hospital of Jiangsu province. It is attached to the Nantong Institute of Liver Disease.

The hospital covers an area of 80 mu (about 53,000 square meters), with a building area of nearly 80,000 square meters. It has 1,100 beds and more than 1,100 employees, and consists of two outpatient departments, 43 clinical medico-technical departments, one community health service center and seven community Health service stations.
