The new material industry of Nantong has developed very fast and produced several enterprises with high technical content.

In 2017, the new material industry of Nantong achieved 150.9 billion yuan ($22.30 billion) of production value.

The distinctive new material industry of the city mainly covers electronic information materials, special metal materials, new-type chemical materials, high-performance fibrous materials, new textile materials and new energy materials.

Backbone enterprises have been developed, including Zhongtian Optical Cables, Shenma Technology, Yongjin Metals, Nantong Xingchen Synthetic Material, Nantong Cellulose Fibers, Jiangsu Jiuding Group, Hai’an Yingqiu. These companies have made a collection of new material products, like optical fibers and sticks, composite insulators, magnetic materials, nuclear grade zirconium sponges, special stainless steel tubes, synthetic resins, synthetic rubber, synthetic fibers, special glass fibers, dynamic battery materials, and graphene.

Nantong Cellulose Fibers Co Ltd, with top level world competitiveness, is a leading domestic enterprise in the cellulose fiber industry. Its major products, cellulose acetate tow and cellulose diacetate flake, have supplied two gaps in China’s cellulose fiber industry. Shenma Technology is one of the few enterprises worldwide that can provide whole-series composite insulators to a power grid. And Zhongtian Technology Group is among the most successful players in the domestic optical fiber industry.
